Ethics & Practices

I write about marketing, media, technology, and how people respond to change. My work and relationships shape that perspective. Here’s what readers should know about those connections, how I use AI, and the tools behind this site. I’ll update this page as things change.

Work & financial interests

I’m currently VP of Marketing at The Trade Desk. I previously worked at Google, Nielsen, Adaptly and Accenture, and Roku. The views on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent any current or former employer. My About page has more on my background.

I own shares in Alphabet, Google’s parent company, Roku, and The Trade Desk. I also invest indirectly in many companies through retirement accounts and index funds. I can benefit financially when those investments do well.

Through my work, I have relationships with companies I may write about, including partners, customers, and people I speak alongside at events. Those interactions influence what I see and how I think. When a piece directly concerns my employer, a company whose stock I own, or another relevant business relationship, I’ll include a disclosure in the piece.

If a post involves sponsorship, an affiliate commission, or another benefit tied to what I’m publishing, I’ll make that clear there, too.

I don’t share confidential or proprietary information from employers or business relationships, including nonpublic data, strategy, or product plans.

AI usage

The perspectives are mine, and I take responsibility for everything I publish. I generally use AI to reduce the distance between what I’m thinking and what a reader can understand: organizing ideas, tightening language, and making the work clearer.

My use of AI includes:

  • Exploring topics and organizing an editorial calendar.

  • Turning scattered notes into outlines and refining drafts.

  • Checking spelling, grammar, and clarity.

  • Flagging possible factual errors or claims that need another look.

  • Preparing titles, descriptions, and other text for search and social sharing.

  • Creating article imagery and helping build data visualizations.

  • Adapting and cross-posting work to LinkedIn and other platforms.

  • Reviewing reach and engagement to suggest improvements.

AI can be wrong or biased. I’m responsible for checking factual claims against reliable sources. I’ll avoid using AI-generated imagery that could be mistaken for a real person or protected IP. Charts reflect actual source data, with estimates or illustrative examples clearly labeled.

Privacy & site tools

I use information about visits to understand what people read, how they find the site, and where the experience could be better.

  • Squarespace hosts the site and provides Squarespace Analytics. It processes technical and usage information, which can include your IP address, browser and device details, pages visited, and referring website.

  • Google Analytics helps me understand traffic and engagement. It can use cookies and collect information about page visits, interactions, devices, and approximate location.

  • Adobe Fonts supplies some of the site’s fonts. Your browser connects to Adobe to load them.

These providers process visitor information to deliver their services. You can read more in Squarespace’s privacy policy, Google’s explanation of Analytics data use, and Adobe’s Fonts privacy notice.

Use Manage cookies in the site’s cookie banner to choose which optional cookies to allow. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Essential site functions may still process technical information.

If you contact me, I receive the information you choose to share and use it to respond.

Corrections & updates

If I get something wrong, I’ll correct it. For changes that materially affect a piece’s meaning, I’ll add a correction or update note.

If you spot an error, have a question about a relationship, or want to ask about privacy, please get in touch. I’ll revisit this page as my work, investments, and process evolve.
